She's UP, but not going just yet. Enjoy!

Big Bea and Little Bea

Boy has Kyla grown! For comparison, here are two pictures of Grandma holding Kyla at 1 week and now at almost 7 months.

On a related note:
As most people know, Kyla is named after her Great-Grandma Katherine Beatrice, not just because she's family, but because she is a role model. I don't even know where to start to tell you about this amazing woman. She's strong, smart, dedicated, loving, out-going, passionate and so much more. She met her husband at a dance, but didn't chase after him - she let him chase her. She graduated from college and worked as a teacher. Raised a family, then went back to work becoming a vice-president and retiring at the young age of 86! She even got her ears peirced in her 70's. Grandma once told me that it was never too late to learn anything - and you should always go for it - and she's lived her life that way. Who wouldn't admire a woman like that!?

For all these reasons and many more, I'm so proud for Kyla to carry the same middle name as her Great-Grandmother. If you are reading this Grandma - we love you!!

Happy Birthday Great-Grandma!

Great-Grandma Jackson's birthday is December 25th - Christmas Day, which means she doesn't really get the day to herself. So we've celebrated it on Thanksgiving since the mid-1980's. Happy Birthday Grandma!!

Thanksgiving Pool Pictures

Turtle Fun!

Here is Kyla riding the turtle that Cousin Coutney created in the sand.

Thanksgiving At The Beach

We spent the Thanksgiving holiday at the annual Sanibel/Captiva Island Florida get together with the family. Kyla had a great time meeting her Aunt Debbie, Uncle Tom and cousins. She also got to see Great-Grandma Jackson and Grandpa Jackson again. We had so much fun with Ky at the beach and pool. She LOVED the sand, but it was a battle trying to keep it out of her mouth! The ocean was very cold, so that wasn't such a big hit, but she enjoyed looking at the waves while we held her. So, we spent a lot of time at the pool and our little mermaid was quite the swimmer - splashing and playing.

p.s. We don't have any pictures of Thanksgiving dinner because Kyla slept through that.

Drama Queen

Saturday, November 10, 2007

Whenever we give Kyla her bottle she likes to throw her arm across her eyes. And if you glance down to look at her and she doesn't have her hands over her eyes, she'll immediate throw it over. Our little drama queen. I wonder where she gets that???

Grandpa (Part Trois)

Grandpa Jackson came back for another visit last weekend. Kyla had great fun playing with Grandpa and drooling on him. She showed him her new trick, too - open mouth wet kisses!

Boyfriend (Part Deux)

Kyla got to see her boyfriend Colton again at my weekly mum's group. He's cheeky that one! And poor Kyla is at a disadvantage because Colton is 9months and crawls. As you can see above, he basically crawled over her trying to get the sippy cup on the other side (which is hers). Ah puppy love!

6 Months!

I can't believe Kyla is 6 months old and 1/2 way through her first year! Where does the time go???? She had her 6 month appt last week and she's doing fabulously!

Weight: 18lbs 5oz (90th percentile)

Height: 26-1/2" (75th)

Head: 17" (75th)

Got her shots, got her flu vaccine and she's on target developmentally. Can't ask for more than that!

Celtic Festival

Monday, November 5, 2007

Sorry no pictures as I forgot my camera (drat!), but we took Kyla to the Austin Celtic Festival on Sunday. We had a great time, despite the fact that they ran out of fish n' chips before we got there. The festival itself is on the river with lots of things to see and places to relax. We got some food and sat by the river for awhile listening to the bands, before venturing out to look at all the wares being sold.

They have some great vendors selling lots of jewelry, tartans, kilt accessories, books, clothes and much more. John bought a Sgian Dubh (pronounced: skeen du) which is a little dagger you wear with your kilt. We also bought some darling Scottish books for Kyla from a line called Hamish McHaggis ("Hamish McHaggis and the Edinburgh Adventure").
We also made it in time to see the "Sheep Herding Exhibition" where a trainer shows how the Border Collies round up sheep. They also did one this year where the dog rounded up geese, which are apparently very difficult to manage. Kyla slept through most of this, but woke up at the end and she LOVED seeing the dogs, sheep and geese in their pens. Have we mentioned that she LOVES animals! We also stopped by the dancing tent to see 2 adorable little girls doing some traditional Scottish dances. I really want to sign Kyla up for that when she is old enough.

And last but not least, we picked up some Haggis-In-A-Can (not as disgusting as it sounds) and kettle corn before leaving. Yes, we have eccentric palates!

Spiders, Monkeys and Babies, Oh My!

Sunday, November 4, 2007

Kyla went to her first "kid" party on Friday night for Halloween. One of the girls in my mum's group threw a party for all the kids and parents. Lucky, for us our friends live 5 houses down, so we were able to walk to the party and then home. We had a great time chatting with everyone and the babies loved playing and looking at each other. Kyla even got a kiss from her first "boyfriend" Colton (he was the spider).
